As of midnight last night, I surpassed 10,000 words for NaNoWriMo 2018! I’m a fifth of the way to my goal of 50,000 words in 30 days and still have 25 days to go. This is by far the best start I have had for National Novel Writing Month and I must admit it is a much needed boost to the confidence. I love the feeling of just letting go and seeing the words flow onto the screen, knowing the goal at this time is not perfection, but to let the story go where it wants to go. It is such a satisfying feeling; to not hold onto the control stick quite so forcefully. To relax and enjoy the ride.
Then I got to thinking that perhaps this lesson learned during a writing challenge might translate in someway into everyday life. Maybe letting go a bit more and relaxing, seeing where the ride takes me, might in the end make life a bit more enjoyable. What about you? Thoughts and opinions? Any similar experiences in your own life/writing journey?
I don’t really have a specific word count necessarily. My first novel is just under 70,000 words. I imagine with this one I’m working on for NaNoWriMo being the third and possibly final book for the series, it will be longer than the first. But I haven’t really put a number on it. I kind of let the story piece itself together as I go along. That’s awesome your novel hit such a great length! What genre is it? Mine is Teen/YA.
My second book is horror fiction. My first book is adult fiction. I wish you success in finishing that third book in your series. I am slowly working on a trilogy of an alien invasion. I have to admit I have to read one of your books one day. Keep writing on your blog and books my friend.
Are your books listed on your blog page? I’ll have to check them out! Good luck with your series! It’s definitely challenging writing a story in pieces! Thank you for the encouragement!
I have a blog or two about my books. My first book is titled ” A Walk in Time”. My second one is called ” The Haunting of Marcasite.” You can find them on line or check out your local book store they might be able to order them for you. You are welcome for the support ! We writers should stand together and support each other !!
What is your total word count goal for your novel ? My last novel was about 125,000 words approximately.
