Y’all, I’m not gonna lie…I am tired!! It has been an incredibly long two weeks! While homeschooling my three girls, driving them back and forth to activities six days a week, and trying to adjust to Daylight Savings Time (which I hate!), I have been sitting at this computer every single day, attempting to reach a daily word count of 1,667 words.
Now, on any given day, 1,667 words can be piece of cake, right? But something about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) makes this number feel quite daunting at times. Maybe it’s the fact that starting November 1st, the goal is to basically write a novel from scratch. So, I’m not writing/editing a novel I’ve been working on for some time. I am going in with a few basic ideas, a makeshift outline, and word vomiting onto my screen. At times, this is exhilarating! Other times, it feels like I am hanging out with Frodo in Mordor, wondering when the orcs are going to come and eat us.
But today is the halfway mark, and I am beyond thrilled to see my word count has exceeded the halfway point. If I can keep myself together for just 15 more days, and if I can keep plucking away at these keys, I will surpass the goal of 50,000 words. I will be able to say I dedicated time to my craft for 30 days straight. I will also walk away with the satisfaction of knowing I have yet another rough draft for yet another novel. And I must confess, that is a damn good feeling!
