I recently saw this quote:
“Life is so much simpler when you stop explaining yourself to people and just do what works for you.”
I don’t know about you, but I frequently find myself feeling as though I have to justify myself and my decisions to those around me. As though I need their approval. And I realized I need to stop.
Now I’m not saying seeking out advice from others when making big decisions is a bad thing! But what I realized about myself was I had taken seeking advice to another level; to a point where it was as though I stopped trusting myself and believed if other people disagreed with something I wanted to do in my life, then it must be the wrong decision.
I finally woke up one day and realized that just because people I look up to and respect think differently than me, it doesn’t mean the way I think and feel is wrong. It simply means I am different, and being different is okay.
I was happy to find this quote because it means someone else discovered this truth as well. It’s okay to be myself and do what I need to do in my life without justifying myself to the world. And there’s quite a bit of freedom in this revelation.
